Coulsdon Community Centre is a site situated off Barrie Close, CR5 3BE which is being considered for redevelopment. Click here to see an outline of the site area.

There was a community engagement event on Wednesday 4th October 2017 from 4pm-8pm & Saturday 7th October 2017 from 10am-2pm at St Aidan’s Church, Chipstead Valley Road, CR5 3BB

This was an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback and find out more about the proposed development on this site.

If you were not able to attend the engagement event, you can view the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Following the above event, feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.

If this proposal goes forward it will require Brick by Brick to submit a formal planning application requesting planning permission from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. The notice will provide information on how you can submit further comments on the proposed development (see link to the Council’s Planning Department for more information

Consultation Feedback

Feedback from Community Engagement Event – 4/10/2017 & 7/10/2017

 

Key Points

  • Many people were unsupportive towards the development proposals.
  • Most residents felt that the change of site to housing would not be a good alternative use.
  • Many residents use the current facilities at the Coulsdon Community Centre
  • Some residents noted that the development proposals are an overdevelopment of the site.
  • Difficulty accessing Chipstead Valley Road from Barrie Close

Key Concerns

  • Residents expressed concerns about the effect the development proposals would have on their privacy, overlooking their homes and loss of natural daylight.
  • There have been sewerage & drainage issues for residents at Chipstead Valley Road / Barrie close.
  • There is not enough room for multiple cars to pass through the narrow road at Barrie Close.
  • Lack of parking spaces at Barrie Close / Chipstead Valley Road.
  • Not enough parking & visitor spaces for the whole site.
  • Proposed storey height for flats is too high and out of keeping with surrounding homes.
  • Residents noted concerns that the proposed development may cause damage to their gardens, as the site is on a slope & backs onto their gardens.

Suggestions

  • Screening at rear of gardens by use of trees to avoid overlooking.
  • More allocated guest visitor parking spaces.
  • Parking permits for residents of Chipstead Valley Road
  • More parking facilities for the site.
  • Some residents noted that they would like to see more affordable housing on the scheme.
  • Use of light-toned bricks on proposed dwellings.
