Coombe Road

Coombe Road is a site of land at the junction of Edridge Road and Coombe Road, Croydon, CR0 1BD.

There was a community engagement event on Wednesday 13th December from 4pm-8pm at Ruskin House, 23 Coombe Road, Croydon, CR0 1BD

Thiswas an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback and find out more about the proposed development on this site.

If you were not able to attend the engagement event, you can view the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Following the above event, feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.

If this proposal goes forward it will require Brick by Brick to submit a formal planning application requesting planning permission from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. The notice will provide information on how you can submit further comments on the proposed development (see link to the Council’s Planning Department for more information )

Consultation feedback – Community Engagement Event (13th December 2017)

Key Points

  • Most residents were unsupportive towards the proposed development.
  • There is a lack of public green spaces in Central Croydon
  • The current site is used by children as a play area, and for dog walkers
  • The space is used in the summer for activities by users of Ruskin House.
  • There is a lot of traffic & pollution in the area.

Key Concerns

  • Some residents are concerned that the proposed development is out of keeping with homes along Edridge Road.
  • It is difficult to find parking on residential streets nearby throughout the day
  • Overshadowing for residential homes nearby to the site.
  • There are existing drainage and sewage issues at Edridge Road.
  • Some residents noted concerns about the intention of a car-free development, and the current parking pressures along Edridge Road.
  • The loss of public green spaces in Central Croydon.
  • Rear access to the site creates a security risk for current residents.


  • Some residents suggested modifying the site as a play area for children.
  • Roof of proposed flats to be slate opposed to metal.
  • Protecting trees on site.
  • Planting more trees between the pavement and the site.
  • Footpaths at Coombe Road are uneven and need improvement.
  • More social housing as part of scheme
