South Lambeth Estate is situated in the northern part of Lambeth, off Clapham Road. The estate was constructed in the 1960’s. The site is bound by neo-Georgian flats to the northwest and backs on to late Georgian properties at Albert Square. South Lambeth Estate comprised 205 properties in total.
A masterplan of South Lambeth has had its first phase already delivered in November 2022.
Lambeth Council have set out in their engagement plan to improve engagement and community empowerment on their estate projects, to ensure all residents have the opportunity to input into the decision-making process moving forwards.
NewmanFrancis is an independent organisation who specialise in community engagement.
We have been commissioned by Lambeth Council to carry out two events to report on residents’ social value priorities for the future of their estate.
As part of our role, we will be holding two events of different content to hear and capture your community’s views about your priorities.
Social value can mean many things but in the context of building new homes, it is some criteria that has to be delivered as part of the contract, outside of the building of new homes that benefits the local community. For example, the contractor or developer might need to ensure that they employ a certain number of local people or they might need to give a certain amount of volunteering hours to a local project, such a food growing project. It can sometimes be quite specific, or it can be more general. It is usually up to the organisation who are leading on the work (in this case, the council) to decide what that looks like.
You can get involved and have your say at the upcoming event on Saturday 4th November 2023, 11am-2pm, Outside the Community Space at Wimbourne House
We will also be holding a workshop on Tuesday 14th November, 5:30pm-7:30pm, Wimbourne House Community Space.
