Last June marked a significant milestone as we launched the NewFran Grant scheme. This initiative aimed to provide vital funding and support for up to 18 impactful community projects. With each project allocated a budget of £500, our goal was to empower local initiatives and drive positive change within communities.
Since the launch of the NewFran Grant, we have received numerous applications each representing a unique vision for community betterment. All applications were carefully reviewed by our grant panel to determine which projects meet the requirements and align best with NewmanFrancis’s mission of fostering strong communities. Through this selection process we ensure that the chosen projects not only meet the criteria but also have the potential to make a substantial difference in their communities.
We are thrilled to announce the selection of the following projects for the Grant scheme:
The Baby Bank initiative helps financially struggling families get essential baby items like clothes, mattresses, and diapers.
A project by the Custom House Bookshop, which promotes multicultural storytelling with interactive resources like story sacks, including books, character puppets, and engaging props for children.
Creating a local space for residents to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers, fostering community engagement.
Collaborating on a mural design and a community planting day to revitalise local green spaces.
A performing arts project, providing drama and dance lessons for young people, helping them to develop confidence and self esteem.
Providing music workshops and performances for vulnerable residents at an assisted living accommodation to promote exploration of music through shared knowledge, cultural experiences and fun.
Workshops designed to teach participants how to re purpose textile-based products and home and lifestyle accessories.
Painting an outdoor mural on community centre shutters and walls with children from the local community.
A cooking project, bringing together families from different cultures to come together and cook a variety of healthy meals, specifically for families who are struggling to make ends meet.
A community initiative teaching locals basic cross-stitch techniques and sharing skills and knowledge to create their own unique designs.
A project providing school pupils with a range of resources and equipment to promote outdoor learning whilst encouraging social skills development.
Teaching the community how to grow microgreens, learning more about the nutritious benefits and how to use them in recipes.
Supporting young children with experiences of neurodivergence, disability and mental health challenges to form friendship groups, manage emotions and develop confidence through creative activities.
A support group for men, creating a space to share their experiences with mental health challenges whilst developing friendships and promoting wellbeing.
These projects represent a diverse range of initiatives aimed at enriching positive community experiences within local communities. Through collaborative efforts, they strive to bring communities together, develop skills, and foster a sense of belonging. Together, they inspire collective action and driving positive change across our communities.
In July 2024, NewmanFrancis will commemorate its 18th anniversary with a special event dedicated to highlighting the achievements of our successful grant projects. This event aims to unite community members, local residents, clients, and stakeholders, providing an opportunity to gain insight into the community-driven initiatives through inspiring stories, exhibitions, and discussions.
