Longheath Gardens

Longheath Gardens, is in north Croydon, CR0 7TQ. The proposed site is small plots adjacent to existing buildings and some garage sites. Click here to see an outline of the proposed site area.

We held an event on Thursday 7th July and a follow up event on Wednesday 24th August to provide an opportunity to give your views and find out more about the proposed development.

If you were not able to attend, you can see the architect’s proposed plans and give your views in the sections below. Feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

Please note: If this proposal goes forward it will require planning consent from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. Consultation Feedback

Key Points Raised

  • Residents like the green space in the area, and feel it can be used safely by children
  • Residents are positive about the current community togetherness
  • 58% said they use on street parking. 25% on site parking and 17% the garages
  • 92% said they do not use the drying-area
  • Lots of comments about anti-social behaviour including drug dealing, theft (mopeds mentioned frequently) and gangs, however some residents said they do feel safe
  • Fly-tipping is a concern.
  • Too many cars and not enough space to park is a moderate issue at present.
  • Current refuse arrangements satisfactory, but frequency of collection per week is an issue

Key Concerns Raised

  • The removal/relocation of the community centre
  • Height of buildings proposed is too tall, some residents said they’d prefer 2 storey buildings to 3 storey
  • Overcrowding and additional traffic to the area due to the new build development is a major concern
  • Blocking of sunlight into properties from new builds

Suggestions 

  • Residents like the green space in the area
  • Improved lighting and landscaping to the footpath between Longheath Gardens and Arena Tramlink station is welcomed
  • Improvements/or new play areas welcomed with better equipment (e.g. swings)
  • Increased areas such as planting/seating spaces welcomed with a focus on the local community (e.g. a community park and food growing)
  • Leisure facilities for adults in new community centre and a football pitch
