NewmanFrancis held a community engagement event on Monday 23rd January 2017 at Waterside Centre, 26 Avenue Road, South Norwood, London, SE25 4DX (Large Meeting Room, Waterside House) from 5pm-8pm, where architects and Brick by Brick were present to speak with local residents & stakeholders about the development proposals. If you were not able to attend, you can view the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Following the above event, feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

Note: If this proposal goes forward it will require Brick by Brick to submit a formal planning application requesting planning consent from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. The notice will provide information on how you can submit further comments on the proposed development (see link to the Council’s Planning Department for more information https://www.croydon.gov.uk/sites/default/files/articles/downloads/howtocommentnote42012.pdf )

Consultation Feedback

Consultation feedback – Community Engagement Event (23rd January 2017)

Key Points

  • Area is generally felt to be secure, although fly-tipping was mentioned as a big problem
  • The garages are used, but the main use of the area is as a walkthrough to Avenue Gardens
  • No real worry that car parking was going to be an issue as the area is not under parking stress at the moment

Key Concerns

  • Loss of the walkway from Avenue Gardens to the garage site, as it’s used as a shortcut to the bus stop
  • One person was concerned the area wasn’t big enough to build on

Suggestions

  • People pleased with the idea of ‘greening’ the area and wanted to see this done more widely
