Whitehorse Road Estate

Whitehorse Road Estate is in  Johnson Road/Cromwell Road, Croydon CR0 2JR. The proposed site is the parking area off Cromwell Road/garages off Berney Road. Click here to see an outline of the site area.

We held an event on Thursday 11th August 2016 to give you an opportunity to give your views and find out more about the proposed development on this site. If you were not able to attend, below you can see the architect’s proposed plans that were shown, including the questions asked and the general feedback and suggestions shared at the event.

Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.

Consultation Feedback

Main points raised by residents:

  • Loss of car parking space for local residents, their visitors, and the attendees of the local church (Assemblies of the First Born); some unhappy with current expensive parking permits
  • Massing, density, overlooking , “too many flats” … “will be an eyesore and in the way”
  • Concerns about redeveloping play areas that have recently been refurbished, also ensure play space remains overlooked from flats as at present, loss of the mural made by local children
  • Concerns about loss of the sheds bordering the play area that are very well used by residents for personal storage (their ‘attics on the ground’)
  • Improving play area and ‘opening up’ access from Berney Rd to Cromwell Rd should not make Berney Rd less secure, still need barrier to stop people encroaching to ground floor windows
  • Impact on property values if building too many new flats and leaving old looking dingy
  • Windows etc need renewal in existing blocks, new builds will leave the rest looking dingy
  • Will new tenants integrate, overuse of services, what kind of people will move in?
  • Concerns about impact of construction work, noise, disruption and inconvenience, where will people will park when construction starts?
