Wandle Road is a car park site in Central Croydon CRO 1DX which is being considered for redevelopment. Click here to see an outline of the site area.

There was a community engagement event on Wednesday 27th September 2017, from 4pm-8pm at St Andrew’s Church, Southbridge Road, Croydon, CR0 1AG

This was an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback and find out more about the proposed development on this site.

If you were not able to attend the engagement event, you can view the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Following the above event, feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.

If this proposal goes forward it will require Brick by Brick to submit a formal planning application requesting planning permission from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. The notice will provide information on how you can submit further comments on the proposed development (see link to the Council’s Planning Department for more information

Key Points

  • Most people were supportive towards the proposed development.
  • The car park is underused.
  • Most people commented in favour of the public realm improvements to the area.
  • There is a lack of on-street parking spaces available.
  • There are anti-social behavioural issues in the area.
  • Many people felt the area was a suitable location for new homes.

Key Concerns

  • Pressure on parking on surrounding roads due to the proposed car-free development.
  • Some residents were concerned that the height of the proposal may overlook their properties and block sunlight.
  • Some local residents were concerned about guest parking.
  • The proximity of the proposal to the Wandle Road flats.


  • For the development proposals to introduce a children’s play area as part of the public realm improvements.
  • Safety and security for pedestrians who walk through the site areas.
  • Amenity space & facilities made accessible to the public
  • Commercial unit (e.g. corner shop, café) as part of the amenity space.
  • More affordable housing on the scheme.
  • Some residents felt that they required further design detail to make a judgement on the proposals.
