NewmanFrancis held a community engagement event on Wednesday 22nd February 2017 from 5pm-8pm at Sanderstead United Reformed Church, 3 Sanderstead Hill, Sanderstead, Surrey, CR2 0HB, where architects and Brick by Brick were present to speak with local residents & stakeholders about the development proposals. If you were not able to attend, you can see the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.

Following the above events, feedback from residents will be used to inform the proposed development.

If this proposal goes forward it will require Brick by Brick to submit a formal planning application requesting planning consent from the Council’s Planning Department. The Council will publicise planning applications by displaying Site Notices on street furniture (on lamp posts) on roads close to the proposed site. The notice will provide information on how you can submit further comments on the proposed development (see link to the Council’s Planning Department for more information )

Key Points

  • Most people were unsupportive towards the proposed development.
  • The car park is well used.
  • Most people commented that they felt safe in the area.
  • The station car park is more expensive than the current Sanderstead Road Car Park. (as the station car park charges a day rate)
  • There is currently a lack of on-street parking spaces available.
  • A lack of parking facilities in the area.
  • Most people who use the car park live locally, visit the nearby shops on Sanderstead Road, and catch the train for various purposes (e.g. work).

Key Concerns

  • The loss of off-street parking.
  • Concerns about the proposals overlooking and blocking light at Vantage Point.
  • The impact the loss of the car park may have on the trade of local businesses and shops.
  • The backlog of cars parking on surrounding roads.
  • Residents of Vantage Point with parking permits are concerned that they will lose their parking.
  • The height of the proposals.


  • Controlled parking scheme in the area on surrounding roads.
  • For the development proposal to be tilted to avoid overlooking on Vantage Point.
  • More public parking spaces to be allocated.
