Cheriton House, Chipstead Ave, Thornton Heath is in north Croydon, CR7 7DG. The proposed site is Cheriton House, a vacant care home.  Click here to see an outline of the proposed site area.

We held an event on Wednesday 13th July to give you an opportunity to give your views and find out more about the proposed development on this site. If you were not able to attend, you can see the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.

Key Points Raised

  • Current problems: fly tipping, litter and subletting, poor drainage and sewage problems
  • Most people generally welcomed the idea of building on the site as it has been vacant for years
  • Difficulty parking near homes – especially for those with a disability
  • Too much traffic
  • Commuter parking
  • Not enough lighting
  • One resident felt that the new development in relation to Chipstead Ave will be a ‘monster’
  • Everyone was concerned about the blind sport – corner of Bradwood house, Brigstock Road and Chipstead Ave

Key Concerns Raised

  • Parking was a key concern with every resident
  • Some residents mentioned about the current drainage and sewage problems and that additional dwellings will make the situation worse
  • Concerns were raised about the narrow roads due to parked cars making it difficult for refuse lorries to move through. This will also affect construction vehicles and site access


    • Laundry room in the new dwellings
    • No white marble similiar to the local library
    • Additional lighting for security
    • Avoiding recessed entrances to assist with security
