Malton House, 193 Selhurst Rd, is in north west Croydon, SE25 6LE. The proposed site is the area to the rear of Malton House. PLEASE NOTE: the original red outline of the proposed site area is inaccurate. Please see architects proposed plans (below) for the correct outlined area.
We held an event on Thursday 14th July to give you an opportunity to give your views and find out more about the proposed development on this site. If you were not able to attend, you can see the architect’s proposed plans that were shown at the event and the general feedback and suggestions from the consultation below.
Once you have had the opportunity to look over the proposed designs, you are welcome to leave any comments or questions you may have in our webform below.
Architect's proposed plans
PLEASE NOTE: This document is only the proposed plans and are not final
Concerns were raised about the narrow roads due to parked cars making it difficult for refuse lorries to move through. This will also effect construction vehicles and site access
One resident highlighted that the original redline proposed area, sent in the post with the Croydon letter, is smaller than the architect’s plans
All residents expressed that they did not want any property built, especially where the bins and washing are currently situated
Most residents expressed that they did not want their bins at the front of the property and wanted them to remain were they are.
Another resident felt that the design was trying to cram in too many properties and treating the development as a ‘tick box’ exercise – e.g. greener (car free), shortage of homes (building new homes)
A resident commended the architects for creating a good number of properties on a small space, however, they were not happy to have the properties built so close the Malton House, and then to add a car free zone is not ideal.
All residents felt that the aspirations of the car free zone did not reflect the residents’ situation
A resident stated that the whole proposal brings no benefit to the current residents as they are losing space and their facilities.
One resident stated Instead of building new buildings could the council not just repair the current homes
One resident expressed concerns that open spaces are going and that the area is turning into a ‘concrete jungle’.
Use of facilities
The play area, washing and parking are used regularly by all residents
All green areas are used by the children
Garages are still in use
All parking bays are used by all the residents
Key Concerns Raised
Parking is small and insufficient
Parking on the street is difficult
Difficulty parking near homes – especially for those with a disability
The access to the site is very narrow
Refuse vehicle struggles to enter and reverses up to gain access. The vehicle has often scrapped or damaged the side of Malton to gain access
Change the direction of the proposed properties to reflect the same direction as the surrounding properties
